Toxicity of GMO Corn and GMO hypocrisy and Double Standard
Although the giant biotech claims that there are no differences between GMO and non-GMO corn, recently the website for Moms Across America posted an article that showed an exclusive comparisons between GM corn and non-GMO corn. The report showed how GM corn has high toxic levels of glyphosate and formaldehyde and lower levels of nutrients and organic corn has 7 times more manganese, 437 times more calcium and 56 times more magnesium than GM corn.
Studies also show that both levels of glyphosate and formaldehyde in GM corn are toxic. In fact, the US Environmental Protection Agency requires that the level of glyphosate in drinking water not to exceed 0.7 ppm and animals have had organ damages if their exposure to glyphosate has exceeded 0.1 ppm. However, the US water levels have 7,000 more glyphosate than the amount allowed for animal organ damage.
Also Dr Huber who among many scientific community members warned the authorities of toxicity of Roundup found out that animals in the laboratory always avoided eating GMO corn and if they were given a choice between organic and GM corn, they always chose organic corn. He also discovered that even .97ppm of formaldehyde is toxic to animals but the GM corn that was given to his laboratory animals had 200 times more formaldehyde.
GMOs should be labeled
More than 64 other countries have required GMO labeling, yet the giant biotech companies including Monsanto spend $46 million against the will of 90% of all Americans that believe GMOs should be labeled. This is all happening when GMOs have been linked to many health problems including cancer, infertility, gastrointestinal problems and autism.
Even President Obama who promised to label GMOs is just a corporate marketing creation
Recently, Monsanto’s number one lobbyist Barack Obama, signed Monsanto’s Protection Act that will allow Monsanto to even more recklessly plant new row of GM crops without any liability and accountability.
During Obama's GMO presidency, the USDA approved different GMO crops and Monsanto’s people were assigned to key positions in Federal agencies.
But labeling GMOs wasn’t the only promise that Obama made. In the middle of a recession which led to millions of Americans losing their job and homes, Obama increased the military budget and despite his promises for a world without nuclear weapons, he used the absurdity of Iran’s threat to build missiles amid at Russia and China. He also imposed the toughest sanctions on Iran since the 1979 revolution and banned the import of medicine for sick children in Iran who have cancer.
However, the ordinary Americans who for far too long have been misrepresented by the double standard and hypocrisy of their governments are now waking up. Thanks to the crash of Wall Street many people are now realizing that the “free market” isn’t freedom and vulture capitalism cannot suppress their true desire for justice and equality.
But as John Pilger the Australian journalist in one of his films called “Empire, Obama and America’s last taboo” mentions he once asked, the great American war correspondent and humanitarian, Martha Gellhorn, to explain the term ‘anti-American’ to him.
“I’ll tell you what anti-American is,” she said in her forceful way. “It’s what governments and their vested interests call those who honor America by objecting to war and the theft of resources, and believing in all of humanity.
“There are millions of these ‘anti-Americans’ in the United States. They are ordinary people. They are ordinary people who belong to no elite and who judge their government in moral terms, though they would call it ‘common decency.’ They are not vain. They are the people with a wakeful conscience, the best of America’s citizens. Sure, they disappear from view now and then but they are like seeds beneath the snow. I would say they are truly exceptional.”
