Here are a summary of the latest research about benefits of Grape Seed extract:

The research at University of Colorado Cancer Center shows that grape seed extract halts the growth of colorectal cancer cells while leaving healthy cells unharmed.

The leading authors, Rajesh Agarwal, PhD and the investigator at the CU Cancer Center, Dr Molly Derry say that “We’ve known for quite a while that the bioactive compounds in grape seed extract selectively target many types of cancer cells. This study shows that many of the same mutations that allow colorectal cancer cells to metastasize and survive traditional therapies make them especially sensitive to treatment with GSE.”

The leading author, Molly Derry also says that the findings about grape seed extract are very important since the life style habits (like lack of exercise and a diet high in saturated fat) has left 60% of colorectal cancer patients diagnosed with advanced stage of this disease. Grape seed extract can also target cancer cells by damaging DNA repair pathway. “A colorectal cancer cell can have upwards of 11,000 genetic mutations – differences from the DNA in healthy cells. Traditional chemotherapies may only target a specific mutation and as cancer progresses more mutations occur. These changes can result in cancer that is resistance to chemotherapy. In contrast, the many bioactive compounds of GSE are able to target multiple mutations. The more mutations a cancer presents, the more effective GSE is in targeting them,” Derry says.

2. Grape seed extract can rejuvenate and rebuild the brain cells and fight dementia and Alzheimer`s disease:

According to a study published by the journal of Phytotherapy Research, grape seed extract is a powerful source of polyphenols known to boost and improve the function of the brain cells. Researchers also discovered that grape seed extract can enhance the memory control center of the brain and can prevent amyloid protein plaque buildup that can cause dementia and Alzheimer`s disease.

3. Grape seed extract can improve the heart function:

You’ve probably have heard that one glass of red wine is good for heart. In a study by the journal Nature, researchers discovered that the powerful antioxidants in grape seed extract can support the heart muscle and promote a healthy vascular system.

4. Grape seed extract can fight leukemia:

The researchers at University of Kentucky have discovered that grape seed extract could destroy three-quarters of leukemia cancer cells within 24 hours and leave the healthy cells unharmed. Researchers say that the grape seed extract activates a protein that regulates the cell-signaling pathways that can kill cancer cells.

5. Grape seed extract can lower the blood pressure and cholesterol levels:

According to a study by University of California, Davis, grape seed extract can be very beneficial for people with metabolic syndrome and a combination of health factors such as high cholesterol, high blood sugar, excess fat and high blood pressure.

According to the leader of the study, C. Tissa Kappagoda, professor of cardiovascular medicine and director of the Preventive Cardiology Program at UC Davis “Participants in the two groups receiving grape seed extract experienced an equal degree of reduced blood pressure. The average drop in systolic pressure was 12 millimeters. The average drop in diastolic pressure was 8 millimeters”. Kappagoda also mentioned that the group that were taking 300 milligrams of grape seed extract had reduced cholesterol levels.
