Green Superfoods
In this section of Seattle Organic Restaurants, I’m going to talk about health benefits of green superfoods. Green superfoods are rich in antioxidants and phytonutrient. Green superfoods contain phytochemicals that can increase the body’s immune system against diseases such as cancer or heart problems.
It’s very easy to digest green superfoods as they are full of fiber and are great for colon cleansing. Green superfoods help to regulate metabolism, burn fat and they are also high in minerals and vitamins. Green superfoods contain protein and healthy bacteria to clean the body and protect the body against illnesses and diseases.
Chlorophyll is a substance that gives plants green color. Green superfoods are high in chlorophyll. Chlorophyll increases the amount of hemoglobin and oxygen in blood. Here are some of the green superfoods, you can use these greens in your smoothies, at least once a day:
Kale: Kale has been known as the queen of greens and has many nutritional benefits. One cup of kale has 5 grams fiber, 40% magnesium, 15% calcium, 36 calories, 180% vitamin A, 200% vitamin C and 1,020% vitamin K. Kale is also a high source of minerals such as iron, sulfur, phosphorus, potassium, copper and manganese. Kale has specific antioxidants such as carotenoids and flavonoids that are anti-cancerous.
Broccoli: The history of broccoli goes back to 2000 years ago; however broccoli is only 200 years old in America. Half a cup of raw broccoli has 10 calories, 20% vitamin A, 60% vitamin C, 2% calcium, 2% iron and 4% fiber. Broccoli has been known for its anti-cancerous properties, preventing stomach disorders and curing stomach infections.
Wheat Grass: Wheat grass is super alkaline and amazing for regulating metabolism. Wheat grass can help food digestion and weight loss. Wheat grass is also full of live enzymes for cleansing the body.
Barley Grass: Barley grass can clean the body from heavy metals such as mercury. Barley grass has 7 times more bio-flavonoids and vitamin C than orange juice, 5 times more iron than spinach and 11 time more calcium than cow’s milk.
Chlorella: Chlorella is a water algae that contains vitamins such as B, C and E. Chlorella is really good for cholesterol reduction and preventing blockage of the arteries. Chlorella prevents heart problems and strokes. There are also other green vegetables that are high in nutrition and fiber. They can prevent heart disease and cancer especially if they are consumed raw. These veggies are watercress, parsley, cilantro, leek, chard, endive, mustard sprouts, spinach, algae and cabbage.
