Recent studies find Monsanto’s Bt corn toxic to humans.
More and more independent research and studies are indicating that BT corn and GMO crops resistant to Monsanto’s best selling herbicide ‘Roundup’ are toxic to both the environment and human’s health.
Although biotech companies and their financial beneficiaries have shamefully been spending millions of dollars lobbying to hide and promote GMOs under the so called label of ‘Natural’, more and more independent researchers, scientists and health advocates are warning the public about the hidden dangers of GMOs and chemicals used in planting GE crops.
- A recent study published in the Journal of American Science shows that Bt corn is toxic to rats, after rats were fed with GMO corn only for 91 days. According to researchers at Suez Canal University in Egypt, GMO corn diet resulted in increased or decreased organs or body weight in lab rats. The researchers also discovered that GE corn caused changes in blood biochemistry that indicated possible toxicity.
- In another study published in the Journal of American Science, the researchers found clear signs of damage to liver, kidneys and small intestine of rats that were fed on Monsanto’s Bt corn. The researchers also found out that Bt corn has negative effect on the foundation of sperm cells and male fertility.
- Another study published in the International Journal of Biological Sciences indicates that Monsanto’s Bt corn is related to organ damage in rats. According to researchers, "Bt corn mostly affected kidney and liver function of rats, the two major diet detoxification organs, but in detail differed with each GM type”. The researchers also found out that Bt corn could result in unknown changes in heart, adrenal, spleen and blood cells of rats. Researchers say that since GE substances have never before been an integral part of the human or animal diet, the health consequences for those who consume them, (especially over long time periods) are unknown.
- Another study published in the Journal of Applied Toxicology revealed that Monsanto’s Bt corn is toxic to humans, even at small exposure. “These results are pretty worrying. Risk assessment requirements for genetically engineered plants and pesticides need to be rigidly enforced. In the light of these findings, we think that the commercialization of these plants is not in accordance with EU regulations”, says Christoph Then at Testbiotech.
The GM insecticide toxin is showing up in our drinking water, air and people’s blood. According to a recent study published in the journal Reproductive Toxicology, the blood samples taken from 93% of pregnant women and 80% of their unborn fetuses had BT toxin in them. The researchers also discovered that the blood samples of 69% of non-pregnant women had Bt toxin. Beside Bt toxin, the researchers found large percentages of both glyphosate and gluphosinate in the blood samples of nonpregnant women.
As Jeffrey Smith, the executive director of the Institute for Responsible Technology says, “Mice fed natural Bt-toxin showed significant immune responses and caused them to become sensitive to other formerly harmless compounds. This suggests that Bt-toxin might make a person allergic to a wide range of substances. Farm workers and others have also had reactions to natural Bt-toxin, and authorities acknowledge that People with compromised immune systems or preexisting allergies may be particularly susceptible to the effects of Bt. In fact, when natural Bt was sprayed over areas around Vancouver and Washington State to fight gypsy moths, about 500 people reported reactions—mostly allergy or flu-like symptoms. Six people had to go to the emergency room. Now, thousands of agricultural workers in India exposed to GM Bt cotton varieties are reporting those exact symptoms; they don’t react to natural cotton. The Bt-toxin produced in the GM plants is probably more dangerous than in its natural spray form. In the plants, the toxin is about 3,000-5,000 times more concentrated than the spray, it doesn’t wash off the plants like the spray does, and it is designed to be more toxic than the natural version”.
Genetically modified foods are considered GRAS (generally regarded as safe) by FDA, however, the reality cannot any further from the truth regarding the safety of GMOs:
More than 30 countries have banned GMOs and 56 other countries have required GMO labeling. However, in both US and Canada, the biotech hides GMOs under the label of ‘Natural’ and spends millions of dollars to kill GMO labeling.
As a matter of fact, the biotech lobby has a death grip on US Congress and recently they have been paying evil GMA (grocery Manufacturing Association) to push for a legislation that will block states from mandating labeling genetically modified foods.FDA who should be in charge of our food safety is nothing more than a puppet ran by biotech and giant pharmaceuticals. Recently, even Harvard slammed FDA by revealing the institutional corruption of Pharmaceuticals and how FDA cannot be trusted with public safety.
The fact is that there is no conscience at giant Frankenfood and junk food companies. There is no conscience in Washington, which has been bought and paid for by this industry. So, conscience has to come from you. If GMO labeling regulation is to happen, it has to come from consumers. People are eating these toxic hidden poisons day after day after day and are getting sicker and sicker while the giant Frankenfoods and junk food industry are getting richer and richer. Last year alone, they made billions of dollars on pure profits and spend some of it to bribe the members of Congress and hide their poisons in our food supply. How can that be? How on earth we do tolerate what these companies do?
