Thyroid Glands and Recommendations:

The thyroid glands produce hormones that impact all the metabolic processes in the body. If the glands end up producing too much thyroid hormone, they can result in overactive metabolic disorder called “hyperthyroidism”.

Hyperthyroidism can result in irritability, constant feeling of being hot, perspiration, fatigue, insomnia, weight changes, cholesterol issues, bowel problems, menstrual irregularities, hair or skin change, rapid heartbeat and hand tremors. Keep in mind that undiagnosed thyroid conditions can be mistaken with menopausal symptoms such as fatigue, mood swings and depression. If you are experiencing menopausal symptoms make sure to test your thyroid.

Thyroid gland is like the body’s internal thermostat and regulates the body’s temperature by producing two hormones that control how fast the body burns calories and consume energy. If the glands produce too much hormones it can result in hyperthyroidism and if the glands produce too little hormones, it can result in hypothyroidism.

The exact cause of thyroid dysfunction is not well understood however both hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism happen when the immune system produces antibodies that can disrupt hormone production and invade and attack thyroid.

Hyperthyroidism can be caused by tumors or lumps that form on the thyroid and disrupt the hormone production.

Hyperthyroidism can also be caused by infections or inflammation of thyroid or use of certain prescription drugs. Hypothyroidism is more common than hyperthyroidism and they are both more common in women than men. A malfunctioning thyroid can result in many health problems and illnesses.

Recommendations:

Eat plenty of raw organic fruits and vegetables that have vitamin C, vitamin B, vitamin E and bioflavonoid including broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, cabbage, kale, pears, peaches, spinach, rutabagas and turnips that help to suppress thyroid hormone production.

Avoid dairy and meat products and stimulants such as coffee, tea, nicotine and soft drinks. Avoid all processed foods, foods with additives and preservatives, GMO foods and pesticide ridden foods.

Be aware of radioactive sodium iodine treatment which has been known to cause severe side effects and do not rush for surgery but instead improve your diet.

The following herbs can also improve and support thyroid health:

Irish moss: Irish moss is great seaweed can keep the dry skin moisture and can help swollen gland.
